Sophrology protocol

Anamnesis - First session

Sophrotherapy begins with an initial anamnesis session, to better understand your needs, define your objectives and set up a therapeutic contract. This is followed by a session to discover sophrology.

This session will enable us to create a customized protocol to meet your needs.

Therapy

Each therapy session is focused on a specific intention, which has been established in advance with the therapist, and which will enable you to make gradual progress towards achieving your goals. Depending on your needs, Celia can also incorporate coaching exercises.

A session of sophrology

A sophrology session is a personalized program tailored to your current goal.
It generally takes place in several stages:
  1. Time to discussyour situation, your needs, and the goal of the session
  2. Dynamic Relaxation: Gentle exercises combined with breathing to relax the body and calm the mind
  3. Sophronization: a guided visualization practice that promotes relaxation and self-awareness
  4. Phenodescription: expressing the feelings experienced during the session
  5. Closing: Final Discussion and Incorporating the Session into Your Daily Life
Each session is tailored to your pace and your personal goals.
Consultations can be conducted in French or English, depending on your needs.

Good to know

Sophrology is an effective practice with immediate benefits, which requires regular training, known as sophro-training, outside the sessions with the therapist, for deep, lasting effects.

Throughout the sessions, your practice will evolve in stages:

  1. Discovery - discovering the exercise. first impressions
  2. Appropriation - integration of the exercise, new, more precise sensations
  3. Transformation - awareness, anchoring positive feelings, new sensations of well-being

The foundations of sophrology

The term "sophrology" was coined in 1960 by its founder, the neuropsychiatrist Alfonso Caycedo (1932- 2017). It was originally used to designate the hypnosis techniques used by psychiatrists in hospitals. It was not until 1967 that sophrology as we know it today was born.

To enrich existing hypnosis protocols, Dr Caycedo drew inspiration from Eastern body, breathing and mental techniques, and combined them with Western scientific medicine. This is what makes sophrology so complete and effective.

Methods that inspired Dr Caycedo:

  • Psychiatry - Psychoanalysis - Neurology
  • Hypnosis: Dr Caycedo's first complementary method
  • Jacobson's progressive relaxation: releasing muscular tension
  • Yoga: stimulating breathing and relaxing muscles
  • Schultz autogenic training: self-relaxation through suggestion
  • Méthode Coué: positive thinking
  • Tibetan Buddhism: an invitation to contemplation
  • Japanese Zen: meditation practice
  • Greek philosophy: including Plato, Aristotle and Hippocrates
  • Phenomenology : learning non-judgment

Initially practised exclusively in hospitals by doctors, sophrology was totally democratized in 1977, when training was opened up to non-physicians, allowing the discipline to become truly emancipated.

This richness makes it a comprehensive method focused on the experience of the body and consciousness.

The 4 degrees of sophrology

Sophrology comprises 12 degrees, the first four of which are used in therapeutic support.

With the help of dynamic relaxation exercises and visualizations, known as sophronizations, we explore these four degrees, enabling us to work in a truly phenomenological way*:

DEGRÉ I • Vivance** du Corps

Concentrative relaxation
Inspired by Hindu techniques such as yoga

Better concentration and body perception

DEGRÉ II • Vivance de l’Esprit

Contemplative relaxation
Inspired by Tibetan Buddhist techniques

Mindfulness and self-image enhancement

DEGRÉ III • Vivance de la Rencontre du Corps et de l’Esprit

Reflective relaxation
Inspired by Japanese Zen techniques

Meditation and integration of body-mind patterns

DEGRÉ IV • Vivance de la Totalisation

Social relaxation
Inspired by phenomenology
Development of existential and individual values

*Phenomenological: learning to be non-judgmental

**Life: Also refers to the presence of the living or the perception of the living in consciousness.

soprhologie

Sophrology, hypnosis, which therapy for my needs?

Sophrology is a gentle, progressive method combining breathing techniques , body relaxation and positive visualization. It is particularly well-suited to chronic, long-term problems such as recurrent stress, underlying anxiety, sleep disorders, chronic pain, persistent fatigue, lack of concentration or loss of motivation. With regular practice, sophrology enables you to reconnect with your sensations, calm your mind and strengthen your ability to adapt to everyday challenges.

Unlike hypnosis, which is often used to treat more occasional, intense or irrational problems (such as phobias, addictions or compulsive behaviours), sophrology is more concerned with long-term anchoring and empowerment. It works gently, respecting each individual's rhythm, and promotes lasting change through greater self-awareness.

emdr

The MOSAIC method: a complementary tool inspired by EMDR

In addition to her sophrology sessions, Florence also uses the MOSAIC method, a gentle and effective therapeutic approach derived from EMDR.

It's for everyone, including those who feel a diffuse sense of unease without knowing exactly what's causing it - anxiety, anguish, emotional blockages...

The session begins by identifying a problematic situation or an uncomfortable feeling, such as a situation that generates anxiety.

Alternating bilateral stimulation (tapping on the knees or alternating sounds in the ears) activates neuronal connections in the brain, helping it to move beyond the situation and reconnect with more soothing, supportive feelings.

The aim is to enable the brain to "reprogram" a more appropriate emotional response, so that we can experience what we deeply want to feel.

Sophrologie

This article discusses sophrology: “What is sophrology?”

Sophrology has immediate benefits, but requires regular training, known as sophro-training, outside the sessions with the therapist, for deep, lasting effects.

Through its breathing and dynamic relaxation exercises, inspired by meditation, the practice of sophrology acts directly on the parasympathetic nervous system and induces a state of physical and mental relaxation which can act at different levels, such as improving digestion, sleep and stress reduction...

Although there are currently no large-scale studies* demonstrating its efficacy, patients' accounts of their sophrology practice are very encouraging and positive.

Breathing exercises (such as cardiac coherence) and meditation have been shown to have very positive effects on our bodies, activating our parasympathetic system and reducing our stress levels.
